About Toyota
Like many other automobile manufacturers Toyota didn’t start out by making cars.
The company was known for its ingenious automatic loom that boasted features not seen in others on the market in the early 1920s.
Toyota was also embracing new manufacturing techniques that were created by its founder Sakichi Toyoda that allowed costs to be slashed by improving efficiency.
During the 1930s the founder’s son Kiichiro Toyoda decided to take on the world of automobile manufacturing.
They developed their own engine called the Type A and stuck it into a prototype sedan they created called the A1.
Rather than release that onto the market the company instead focused on producing a pickup truck which they then put onto the market at a considerably cheaper price than a Ford (which was used as a reference during design).
Over the years since the company has put many resources into developing not only cars and trucks but engines and alternative fuel technologies.
They made a huge name for themselves at the turn of the Millenium when the Prius model they released became the first mainstream hybrid car.
The Corolla model they produced would also become the best-selling car in the world after taking over from the Beetle in the 1990s.
