The Corolla Cross is a compact crossover SUV that was first released by Toyota in 2020. It is also sold in China under the name Toyota Frontlander.
There has only been one generation of this model since its release.
The Corolla Cross only comes as a 5-door compact crossover SUV body style. All models feature a front-engine configuration with either front-wheel or all-wheel-drive.
Naturally, the Corolla Cross shares a huge number of similarities with the regular Corolla. It is also the second model of crossover vehicle to be built on the GA-C platform, the first being the Toyota C-HR.
The Corolla Cross is also related to the Lexus UX, with a different level of luxury as reflected in its price.
Powertrains for the Corolla Cross include a 1.8-liter ZR inline-4 and 2-liter M20A-FKS. There are no diesel engines available for the Corolla Cross.
There are also petrol flex-fuel and hybrid variants in the same configurations. However, these versions are limited to specific markets.
Hybrid variants are powered by an AC synchronous electric motor along with their conventional petrol engines. These electric motors are capable of delivering either 53 kW or 83 kW plus 30 kW for the all-wheel drive models.
Transmissions come as a 7-speed Super CVT-i for the 1.8 L petrol engines and a Direct Shift-CVT which is a continuously variable transmission that features a combination of a single physical gear and multiple simulated gears.
Despite being a crossover SUV, the Cross Corolla has a reasonably low towing capacity. All models have been rated with a towing capacity of 680 kg / ~1,500 lbs, regardless of trim or engine.
