The Ridgeline is a mid-sized crossover pickup truck manufactured by the Japanese company Honda. Currently, it is the only pick-up that Honda offer (previously, the only other option was the Acty mini-truck). The Ridgeline was built on a unibody frame (taken from the Accord and the Pilot) with a crew-cab configuration and only one power train.

The first generation came out in 2006 and was designed and created by the engineering team ‘Honda Research and Development Americas’ led by Gary Flint. The Ridgeline was 5 years in development which produced the original concept in time for the North American International Auto Show. Following the initial release, Honda worked hard on creating the production version over the next 12 months and debuted it exactly a year later at the same show. The design was met with some skepticism over its arguably unconventional appearance, and this was addressed by Honda ready for the second generation.

The second generation was ready for 2017 and was built on the new global light truck platform. Honda did have to modify the platform to accommodate for towing, hauling and off-road capabilities. The wheelbase was extended too.

Despite Honda admitting they may have made a mistake with the original aesthetic, the second generation model maintained an unusual look and this was reflected in the sales. Apparently, the intention was not to steal customers away from competitors and convert existing truck owners, but rather to give existing Honda customers an option to upgrade from minivans and SUVs to the Ridgeline. Sales started strong for the second generation but ultimately saw a disappointing 12% decline over the following years.
