The Volvo S60 is a compact executive sedan that has been produced by Volvo since 2000. During this time, there have been three generations released, with the latest version making its debut in 2019.
It faces competition from iconic German luxury cars like the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes E-Class.
Apart from this 4-door sedan version, there is also the Volvo V60, which is an estate variant. This version debuted as part of the second generation in 2011. Both of these versions were built on the SPA platform.
Trim levels for the S60 consist of the base Core, followed by the mid-tier Plus, the premium Ultimate, and the high-performance Polestar version. There has also been the R-Design package which features upgraded styling.
Older models also had other trims like the Platinum package.
Depending on the trim selected, drivetrains consist of either front-wheel or four-wheel drive.
The S60 has seen a number of engine and transmission configurations over the years. These have ranged from the smallest engine, a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine to the turbocharged 3-liter inline-6.
Diesel engines range from a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 to a twin-turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-5.
Newer versions have been restricted to 2-liter petrol, hybrid, and diesel engines. To make up for the reduced engine sizes, most of these are either turbocharged or twin-turbocharged.
Hybrid versions feature either plug-in or mild hybrid technology. This technology made its debut in the second generation version.
Transmissions have included manual and automatic 6-speed transmissions, as well as 8-speed automatics. There has also been a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic.
