The VW Passat is a large family-size car that was released by Volkswagen in 1973. There have been eight generations of the model since then.
Similar to the Jetta and the Golf, VW has given the Passat generation an internal designation. Rather than the Mk, the Passats are named B1 through to the latest B8.
Competing models from outside the VW product line include the Audi A3, BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the Honda Accord.
The Passat has come as both a saloon and estate model since 1973. These are a 4-door and a 5-door configuration respectively.
All of these models feature a front-mounted engine layout with either front-wheel or four-wheel-drive for 4motion models.
The latest generation, the B8, was released globally by the start of 2015.
