About Suzuki

In the early days of Suzuki, the company focused its efforts on weaving looms and thanks to the founder’s ingenious tweaks the company found itself exporting models worldwide.

This huge success led to the company being able to develop other products and a compact car seemed the logical choice.

Suzuki developed several compact car prototypes during the mid-1930s, boasting innovative features including a water-cooled engine.

These were never launched due to the second world war forcing companies to provide for the war effort.

It wasn’t until the 1950s when Suzuki was forced to rethink their strategy as the cotton industry collapsed that they brought the drawing board back out and once again looked into creating an automobile.

They began by focusing on the motorbike industry and excelled by producing low-maintenance low-cost engines that would become favorites all over the world.

In 1955 the company produced and sold its first automobile, the Suzulight.

Like the prototypes before – this bore futuristic features that were 30 years ahead of its time and thanks to this it caught Volkswagen’s attention, pulling in much investment from the German company.

Over the years since Suzuki has excelled in many different industries, focusing on innovation and automation to keep costs and therefore prices low.
