The Mazda6 is a mid-size car that Mazda has manufactured since 2002. There have been three generations in total. The most recent version made its debut in 2012. However, it is a continuation of the Mazda 626, realistically making it the seventh generation of the model.

There have been various layouts released. These consist of the 4-door sedan, as well as the 5-door station wagon and liftback.

The Mazda6 is often compared to other mid-size cars like the VW Passat, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry.

Trim levels in the latest models consist of the base Sport, followed by the mid-tier Touring, and then the upper-tier Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and premium Signature.

There was also a high-performance version called the Mazdaspeed 6 that was released in 2006 for a limited time.

Powertrains range from a 1.8-liter Z-Series inline-4 up to a 3.7-liter Duratec V6 for the petrol versions. In the third generation models, all engines were updated to consist of the Skyactiv-G range. The top-tier engine in the latest models is a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G inline-4.

Diesel versions include a 2-liter MZR inline-4, as well as either a 2.2-liter MZR or Skyactiv-D inline-4, depending on the generation.

Transmissions include both a 6-speed automatic and manual transmission. Although, the manual version was discontinued in 2019. Older models also included 5-speed versions of automatic and manual gearboxes.

The third generation received critical acclaim for its design and was a finalist in the 2013 World Design of the Year. There have also been other awards throughout its lifespan. The most notable of these is the 2003 European Car of the Year award for the first-generation model.
