The Mazda3 is a compact car that has been produced by Mazda since 2003. It represents one of the best-selling models in the Mazda lineup, usually place just behind the very popular Mazda CX-5.

Since its initial release, there have been four generations on the market. The latest version made its debut in 2019.

It has been sold in a number of configurations. The most notable of these is the 4-door fastback sedan and 5-door hatchback version.

Due to the high popularity of the class, the Mazda3 faces stiff competition. Most of this comes from the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, and Honda Civic. Its looks have also been likened to that of the Alfa Giulietta.

Trim levels in the latest models consist of the entry-level Base, followed by Select, Preferred, and the top-of-the-range Platinum.

Additionally, there is the performance version, the Mazdaspeed3 that was produced up until the third generation’s release in 2013.

Powertrains have included engines in the typical range of modern hatchbacks sizing. Most recently these have consisted of engines like to the 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G inline-4 through to the largest turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G inline-4. Diesel options also range from a 1.5-liter Skyactiv-D to a turbocharged 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D.

Before the Skyactiv range was introduced, Mazda used their Mazda Z-series for both petrol and diesel powertrains.

Transmissions go from a 4-speed automatic up to the fairly standard 6-speed automatic. Manual options include both 5-speed and 6-speed transmissions. Mazda also offers some models with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

There has also been a hybrid powertrain in the lineup since the third generation. These are outfitted with a power-split system or a mild hybrid system.
