The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV that has been in production since 2006. It is currently in its second generation, with the newest release coming in 2018.
The Compass has the typical 5-door layout found with most SUVs. It also features either front-wheel or all-wheel drive depending on which trim level is chosen.
There is tough competition in the class, which usually comes from a number of offerings from other manufacturers. The most notable of these are the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage, and Volkswagen Tiguan.
Powertrains for both generations have included petrol engines running from the smallest turbocharged 1.3-liter inline-4 found to the 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir inline-4 found in the newer models. The first-generation models had the option of either a 2-liter or 2.4-liter World inline-4.
Diesel powertrains for the newer models feature turbocharged Multijet inline-4s in either 1.6-liter or 2-liter configurations. First-generation models were outfitted with either a 2-liter or 2.2-liter inline-4, both of which were turbocharged.
Jeep also released a plug-in hybrid version outfitted with the turbocharged 1.3-liter GSE T4.
Transmissions included 5-speed and 6-speed manuals for both generations. Automatic transmissions included 6-speed in the first-generation models, as well as 7-speed and 9-speed options later on.
Trim options follow suit with most of Jeep’s lineup, consisting of the base Sport, followed by the Latitude, and high-end Limited. Both generations also included Altitude and High Altitude trim levels, which are luxury-focused packages.
There is also the Trailhawk version which is an off-road performance version that was released for the second-generation models.
