About Jeep

The name Jeep has become synonymous with small offroad-capable automobiles.

Here, in this context, it is the American automobile manufacturer that started out from the Willys Jeep model.

The Jeep can trace its roots back to World War 2 when it was designed by Willys as a four-wheel-drive reconnaissance car.

In just 49 days the Bantam motor company designed a prototype for the US Army using parts created by other companies and was ready for testing.

The US Army was happy with the design apart from the lack of engine torque and requested the help of Ford and Willys to produce it in large numbers.

After the war, the model was sold to the public and many other automakers copied the design due to its success in the theatre of war.

Companies like Land Rover were launched due to these models and Toyota introduced the Land Cruiser based on a captured model.

Since then the brand has passed through many hands such as Ford but is now under the control of Chrysler.
