About Chrysler

The Chrysler brand can be traced back to 1925 when it was formed by Walter Chrysler.

It was created using the equipment and plants of the collapsed Maxwell Motor company which had been in business for 21 years prior.

During the first 5 years, Walter Chrysler acquired various other motoring brands such as Dodge in order to diversify the range of cars he sold.

This technique helped the company to profit during times of economic boom and survive during tough recessions –  a technique he learned when working for Buick.

The 1900s were a booming time for automakers and Chrysler grew to produce vehicles not only for the USA market but also worldwide, at one time owning the Jeep brand too.

During the credit crunch around 2008, the company had to file for bankruptcy, only being saved by the government at the last minute with a long-term loan to keep them alive.

Fiat purchased the company as the shares dropped during this time and now runs the brand as an American-focused wing of its operations.
