The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size SUV that the luxury carmaker brand has manufactured since 1998. Cadillac also intermittently sold a sports utility truck named the Escalade EXT between 2002 and 2013.

Cadillac has released a total of five generations since its initial debut. The most recent version was released in 2021.

It is sold as a 5-door SUV in two different wheelbases. These are the regular version and the Escalade Stretch Vehicle (ESV) model. Of course, there is the truck version as well.

These models are given the designation of GMT, followed by lettering or numbering unique to the given platform. For instance, the latest generation is called the GM T1XX, as it is built on that platform.

The Escalade usually competes with other American full-size SUVs, particularly those outfitted with luxury features. The most prominent competitors are its corporate cousins, the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon. However, its biggest rival is the Lincoln Navigator.

Trim levels consist of the base Luxury, followed by Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum, and finally Sports Platinum. It is clear to see Cadillac heavily emphasizes high-end luxury when considering the base level’s being titled ‘Luxury.’

Another notable trim is the high-performance package called the Cadillac Escalade-V. Like the Cadillac CTS-V, there are several upgrades to increase performance hugely.

Engine options in later generations have typically included larger engines, most commonly a gasoline 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8. There is also a supercharged version for the Escalade-V.

Cadillac also release the first diesel powertrain in 2020, a turbocharged 3-liter Duramax inline-4. This marks the first-ever diesel engine offered by the manufacturer since 1985.

Transmissions usually include high-gear automatics. These are typically between 6-speed and 10-speed in later models. However, older models have used 4-speed automatic and continuously variable transmissions.
