About Audi

You can trace the origins of the Audi automotive manufacturer all the way back to the 1880s.

It was originally known as Wanderer but then after several mergers, it was formed into a brand called the Auto Union in the 1930s.

The four-ring design of the logo that Audi represents itself with today comes from the four companies that merged to form it during the early 20th Century.

It was purchased during the 1960s by Volkswagen who relaunched the company as the Audi we know it as today.

Audi was now being used to produce upmarket versions of Volkswagen lines starting with the 100 model which was based on the VW Passat.

Next came the 50 model which was later rebranded as the VW Polo as it did not fit in with the branding of the upmarket automaker.

Over the next 20 years, the company made a name for itself in the motorsports scene and began to use this to push the “performance” image that Audi has come to be known for.

In recent years the company has produced many new crossover SUV lines based on their popular hatchback and sedan lines.
